A scheduled vacancy means that a position on a City committee or commission is set to open due to an expiring term. Some current members may seek reappointment, and in those cases, interviews may or may not be required. If no interviews are scheduled, the position may be filled without additional applicants being considered. However, if you’re interested in serving, we encourage you to apply—new applicants are always welcome!

The City offers diverse opportunities to participate in serving the community through its appointed boards (i.e., boards, commissions, committees, and task forces).  Appointed members help develop recommendations reflective of the community and provide the City Council with perspectives to make policy decisions that enrich Palm Desert. Other appointed boards make decisions, which are only reviewed under defined procedures.

Applications are welcome year-round with interviews and appointments occurring in May or June annually. With few exceptions, appointed members must reside in Palm Desert. Certain appointed boards may also require specific experience in a technical field or have other qualifying criteria. Your application will remain on file with the City Clerk for a period of one year and will be considered when a vacancy occurs and interviews are scheduled

Meeting Videos

Appointed body meeting videos are available through the City's online records management system. The City continues to strive to make more meeting videos available online. If you are seeking a specific meeting's video or audio file not available online, please submit a request for public records and the City Clerk's Office will provide you with the file as soon as practicable.

You may submit your public comment via our online form. Once submitted, the City Clerk's Office or designated staff will ensure that it is distributed to the appointed body as soon as practicable and retained for the official record.
